Oxford Volunteer Fire Department

Junior Firefighters' Page

The Oxford Volunteer Fire Department's Junior Firefighter program began a few years ago to provide an opportunity for young adults, between the ages of 14 and 18, to learn about and participate in the volunteer fire service.  Through an organized and structured environment, the program aims to teach the participants about team work and responsibility as well as the specifics of firematic operations.  Even though the "juniors" are not able to perform all of the duties of the regular members, they are no less a part of the family.  Time and again, they have proven their worth, and their willingness to do whatever they can for the fire department.

Tim and Kevin on the hose line, practice their technique in preparation for the next barrel fight.  Along with their teammate Steven, they brought home the 1st place trophy form the Lopatcong FD wedown/barrel fight earlier this year.  This was no small accomplishment since these "juniors" were up against older and more experienced firefighters.

Not to be outdone by the lads, Shannon and Amanda also take practice for their next battle at Good Will Fire Company.  Along with their teammate Chelsea, these ladies not only took 1st place at Lopatcong, they also took 1st place at the Mt. Lake Barrel Fight.

Here is a good picture of a battle between Oxford and Washington Borough FD's Juniors.  In the background, you can see 39-72, Oxford's Tanker and 83-63 Washington's reserve pumper.
